The first Temecula village site was near the mouth of the Temecula Canyon where the Temecula and Murrieta Creeks join the Santa Margarita River. That site was occupied when the Spanish came in 1797. The Railroad came to Temecula in the 1880's as it stretched from San Diego to Colton. Walter Vail purchased 87,500 acres in the Temecula Valley which was later sold to the Kaiser Kevelopment Company, Temecula became a city in 1989. Murrieta officially became a city on July 1, 1991. It’s a community with a past and vision for its future. One that welcomes challenges, takes risks, and embraces opportunity.
